Il mwbqMahaweli (mwbgin singalese mwbwමහවැලි ගඟ mwcamahavæli gaṅga letteralmente "grande fiume sabbioso"; mwcqin tamil mwcgமகாவலி ஆறு mwcwmahāvali āṟu)cite-ref-room-1-0[1], è un fiume dello mweaSri Lanka e in particolare, con i suoi 335mweq km (208 miglia)cite-ref-britannica-2-0[2] di lunghezza, è il fiume più lungo del paese.
Il suo mwfwbacino idrografico è il più grande del paese e copre circa un quinto della superficie totale dell'isola. Il fiume raggiunge il mwgaGolfo del Bengala all'estremo nord-orientale di mwgqTrincomalee.
Il Mahaweli continua come un grande mwgwcanyon sottomarino, facendo della regione di mwhaTrincomalee uno dei più bei porti d'altura del mondo.cite-ref-stoddart-3-0[3]
A causa della produzione di mwigenergia idroelettrica, il fiume è pesantemente arginato in più parti ed è inoltre utilizzato per l'mwiwirrigazione di quasi 1000mwja km² (386²) di terreno.cite-ref-barry-4-0[4].
